‘Black and White‘
I loved finding this. It’s just some black paint on a wall, splashed, flaking, peeling and making the overall building look bleak and unloved. But just in this little section, zoomed out from it’s surroundings, it has eroded in a way that make it feel a beautiful piece of abstract art.
The bones of it was created by humans at some stage but it wasn’t an intentional piece of wall art or graffiti. It wasn’t orchestrated. It’s old renovation work that has weathered into something strangely beautiful.
A few years ago all I wanted to shoot was reportage and street photography. I still love that genre. Documenting the weird and wonderful strangeness of humans has a magic to it. We’re all navigating the human condition. But the shift in what I’m noticing, and meticulously photographing and documenting, seems to be tilting towards accidental art and the happy alignment of things.
